Academic Opportunities

The institution’s academic mission is central to the work of OGEE and the Office of International Programs. OGEE’s work offers direct support of the UNC Charlotte Prospect for Success with emphasis on the Global Awareness learning outcome. By the time an undergraduate student completes his/her degree, our goal is to ensure that each student’s knowledge of and appreciation for global perspectives has increased. Two credit bearing initiatives toward this goal are the International Enrichment Seminar offered through University College and taught by OGEE staff, and the Global Engagement Scholars Program offered through the CLAS Department of Global Studies and administered and taught by the OGEE.

Globally-Networked Learning

Globally-Networked Learning (GNL), also known as Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL), was coined by Professor Jon Rubin at SUNY as a “teaching and learning methodology which provides innovative and cost-effective internationalization strategies. Such programs foster faculty and student interaction with peers abroad through co-taught multicultural online and blended learning environments emphasizing experiential student collaboration.” (SUNY COIL Center, 2020).

Global Engagement Scholars Program

The UNC Charlotte Global Engagement Scholars Program (GESP) is designed to enhance a student’s global and cultural awareness through a mix of academic and co-curricular activities. Undergraduate students from all academic disciplines are encouraged to register for the GESP. Discover more about the Global Engagement Scholars Program.
