Location:
McKnight Auditorium

Join the Department of Computer Science in welcoming Fariba Davody, a Persian traditional vocalist and vocal coach who was born in Tehran, Iran. Ms. Davody will travel from Toronto, Canada to perform for the UNC Charlotte community and discuss the role of women in the recent movement in Iran. Furthermore, Ms. Davidy will provide an overview of the role and influence of women in Iranian traditional music as well as the history and challenges of obtaining the right to sing in Iran.

After the Islamic revolution, Iranian women solo vocalists were banned from performing in public. Davody galvanized to bring female vocals back to the stage. Eventually, her efforts paid off, and female vocalists were able to perform publicly as a part of a chorus. Currently, she lives in Toronto, Canada, and works as a vocal coach.
