Consul General Pier Forlano is a highly motivated and dedicated diplomat, with 30 years of professional experience, including appointments in four Embassies (Bulgaria, Malta, South Africa and Australia). In 1987 he was appointed Deputy Chief of the Asia and Africa Office of the General Administration for Emigration and Social Affairs. From 1990 to 1994 he was assigned to the Italian Embassy in Sofia, Bulgaria, as Chief Officer of the Consular and Commercial sector. Between 1994 and 1999 he was appointed Deputy Director to the General Director at the Embassy of Italy in La Valletta. In 1999 he returned to Rome and was assigned as Chief Officer of Cultural Agreements and Protocols and Scientific Promotion, followed by a position as Deputy Officer for the Italian Schools overseas, and Chief of Staff of the General Directorate for Cultural Relations from 1999 until 2004. Between 2004 and 2008 he was assigned as Deputy Head of Mission at the Italian Embassy in Pretoria, where, for a long time he was Chargé d’Affaires. From 2008 to 2012 he served at the Embassy of Italy in Canberra as Deputy Counselor, in charge of consular affairs: in 2009 he organized a seminar entitled “Italians Down Under” covering a wide variety of topics including language, Italian-Australian identity, the image of Italy in Australia and elder citizens to name just a few. From 2012 to 2017 he was appointed Chief Officer for 27 Sahel countries, the region of the Great Lakes and Central Africa and subsequently appointed as the Official responsible for issues related to the entire Sub-Saharian Africa and regional organizations. Currently Pier Forlano is the Consul General of Italy in Philadelphia.
