Ms. Kirsti Kauppi became Ambassador of Finland to the United States in September 2015. Prior to her appointment as the Finnish Ambassador to the US, she began her career in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland in 1983 and Geneva in the International Labor Organization in 1985. Between 1983 and 2015, Ambassador Kauppi has served in a number of capacities throughout her career, such as the Finnish Permanent Mission (Minister) to the EU in Brussels (1993-1997) and Bangkok (1989-92), the Finnish Governor and vice-chair of the Board in the IAEA Board of Governors, Deputy Chief of Mission (Minister) in Berlin, and foreign representative of Finland in Washington (1997-2000). She also served as Finnish Ambassador to Austria (2005), Advisor to the State Secretary and Political Director in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Helsinki (2000 – 2003), and the Director General for Africa and the Middle East (2009-2012).
