Student Reactions
Public Health
“Thank you very much for the opportunity to participate in the global partnership on global health. This interaction reiterate to me again the importance of global partnership in suggesting and providing solutions to global health issues. The multifaceted and global nature of human trafficking that was topic of our discussion was also re-echoed to me. The interaction also enable me to get first hand information.”
Global Marketing
“I really enjoyed the group project, it was some confusion but all together we did a great job. Working with students internationally was amazing and great practice for the real world GM field.”
“Yes, hearing the perspective of people in that country first hand helped me further understand the difference in their marketing strategies.”
Social Work
It’s very interesting and crucial that we form relationships with those in other countries as many of us are experiencing similar social problems. It is humanity-affirming and made me hopeful about the future, despite our many concerns about the directions that our countries seem to be heading right now.
Political Science
Participating in the virtual exchange program with AUS (American University Sharjah) and creating a podcast on the interplay between Islamic laws and political participation was a profound experience. This program offered a unique platform for exploring complex topics, enhancing my understanding of how Islamic laws impact political participation in various cultural contexts. Collaborating with peers from diverse backgrounds enriched my perspective, allowing me to see how different historical and cultural experiences shape our views on political rights and law.
This experience significantly improved my cross-cultural communication skills. I learned how to navigate and respect cultural nuances in discussions, which enhanced my ability to communicate thoughtfully and effectively across diverse viewpoints. Additionally, working in a virtual setting helped me develop stronger virtual communication and interpersonal skills, as we had to coordinate across different time zones and schedules. It pushed me to be more proactive, clear, and concise in our communication, which was crucial for our group’s productivity and cohesion.
Music Performance (hybrid GNL)
We went from two groups who knew nothing about each other to a full ensemble with a great sound. That transition was (smooth) thanks to the hard work of both the teachers and students. If people were more willing to seek connection with others who have different cultures and backgrounds, then the world would be a much friendlier place. Nowadays, with technology, it is easier than ever to connect with people who live across the world. If we simply seek to understand before we are understood, then maybe the nations could join together, as this ensemble did.
