Steps to Develop a GNL Course
The steps listed below will provide an outline of how to develop a GNL course at UNC Charlotte.
Step 1: Submit the Expression of Interest Form
In order to provide you with additional information and better understand your goals, please submit the Expression of Interest form.
Step 2: Enroll in the GNL Canvas Course
Once you have submitted the Expression of Interest form and have attended the information session, Charlotte Global will enroll you in the GNL Canvas course. The GNL Canvas course will prepare you to submit a proposal and successfully design and launch a GNL course. In the mean time, the Office of Global Learning will work with you on the following
Work on the G-Designation for Your Course
The Office of Global Learning has worked with the Registrar to provide a G-designation for GNL courses. The G-designation allows students to recognize the globally networked learning nature (i.e., contains a portion of virtual collaboration during the course with students from another institution) when registering the course.
Identify a Partner
UNC Charlotte enjoys the benefits of an extensive network of partner universities. Although it is not required to collaborate with a UNC Charlotte partner institution, additional resources are available to faculty working with a UNC Charlotte partner university, as the staff of Charlotte Global will be more familiar and have better knowledge of the faculty, staff, curriculum, and support available at those institutions as opposed to a non-UNC Charlotte partner.
When partnering with faculty at other institutions, ensure that they share equal commitment to this new teaching paradigm and that they have the necessary institutional support, both academically and technologically, to be successful. Additionally, you should be prepared to be accommodating of partner university bureaucratic differences. For example, even small changes to a syllabus may need complete approval at another institution.
Step 3: Submit a Proposal for Funding
After you complete the GNL Canvas course and identify a faculty partner, you are eligible to submit a formal proposal and be considered for funding. Please submit the proposal by the relevant deadline below.
