The Beauty of Chinese Characters: A Lecture on Chinese Culture

Recognized as one of the most difficult languages to learn in the world, the challenge and beauty of the Chinese language lies in its unique written system of Chinese characters.
Dr. Ji’e Zheng, Adjunct Professor in the UNC Charlotte Confucius Institute, will compare Chinese and English writing systems and introduce the audience to the nature and value of Chinese characters. Participants will learn features of Chinese characters, such as the close relationship between form and meaning, the complex structure, and the cognition of the left and right brain when learning Chinese characters. Participants will gain a unique perspective of Chinese culture, thinking, values and cultural conventions through the formation and intricate structures of Chinese characters.
